Ryan Rusy After our recent extended power outages in the state of Texas, I am curious about the duration your biomedical freezers can maintain their internal temperature without power, and what systems are in place to mitigate the negative outcomes of these events?

Jane Ford Good morning Ryan! Thank you for your question. I am trying to locate that information for you currently and once I find it I will send it to you. As far as recovery systems to mitigate the negative outcomes of these types of events, we offer Lab Alert temperature montioring systems that will alert you when there is an outage, but as far as a recovery system, we do not over these on our -30s or -40s. We do have back up systems for our ULT freezers, however.

Jane Ford Hello Ryan, If the freezer(s) temperature is -30°C, it should reach room temperature in about 5 ½ to 6 hours if the door(s) remains closed. These test were performed with no load (empty freezer), in a 35°C ambient temperature environment.

Jane Ford Also, I want to emphasize one point real quick. The fact that this is done at 35C ambient and no load is honestly beyond worst case conditions for most labs. In reality most users probably have material stored in the unit (increased thermal capacity), and the unit will likely be operating in a room at room temp. They should realistically have an 1hr+ of additional time before the unit warms up to room temp.

Jane Ford Do you have any other questions I may answer? :-)
